How Early Can I Order My Repeat Prescription?

Hey Pharmacist is designed to help keep your repeat prescriptions stress-free. We remove the faff by giving you the option to get automatically reminded when it’s time to re-order your medication. So you have plenty of time to get it sorted. You can even choose how early you get reminded to re-order your repeat prescription, with the options being 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks after your request is sent to your GP! You can also choose your own date if needed.
It is best practice to order your NHS repeat prescription 7 days in advance, but this depends on your GP. Some medications may require approval before being reissued, such as those involving blood pressure readings.
If you’re unsure as to how early you can re-order a specific medication, ask your local pharmacist when you collect your medication in store.
If you have opted to have your medication delivered directly to your door, then it is recommended that you order your repeat prescription 7 days before. However, if you choose to collect your medication from your local pharmacy then the process is much faster, taking approximately 3 days.
How to set a re-order reminder
Re-ordering your medication takes as little as 3 clicks! So it’s easy to forget, especially when the process is made so simple! This is when our re-order reminder function comes in useful.
First, be sure to have order update notifications turned on to receive the order reminder by going to setting > notifications.
Once your selected medication has been requested with your GP, you will see the option to “Set re-order reminder” when viewing your basket. Once you turn this on, you’ll have to option to set re order reminders when it suits you best (shown above).
